#58: Happy birthdays

Inspired by real life

Today is one of my favorite days of the year — my birthday.

Eight years ago, I was in the hospital, 9 months pregnant, and ready to give birth to our little girl.

My phone buzzed and ting-ed with friends and family sending me happy birthday wishes. They didn’t know I was in labor, but I felt like they were cheering me on.

Several hours later, I had a little baby in my arms. She was six days late and just on time.

Creation notes

I drew the illustration of my oranges in 2023 as part of the 100 day project that year. It was my first year trying it, and I made it to 94 days!

This is one of my favorite things, me and my daughter coming out in the morning to wish each other happy birthday.

I love that I can capture these moments, this feeling, through art.
